چکیده

Perhaps the most common approach to solving PDEs in engineering applications is through use of nite-element approximations. In free-boundary problems this usually requires adaptive meshing that tracks the surface motion. These meshing schemes may not be able to handle shock formation or topological changes without arcane logic or user intervention. Inconvenient in simulation, this can cause grave di culties in real-time control. Thus alternatives are needed. We nd these alternatives under development in the surprisingly related areas of phase transition physics and computer vision. We present (i) A mathematical representation of free surface motion that is particularly well-suited to real-time implementation, (ii) a technique for estimating an isotropic and homogeneous normal velocity based on a simple measurement and (iii) application to a semiconductor etching problem.

Phase Transitions, Curve Evolution, and the Control of Semiconductor Manufacturing Processes - Decision and Control, 1996., Proceedings of the 35th IEEE

This paper presents a strategy for the estimation and control of certain semiconductor manufacturing processes, employing models developed to describe the dynamics of material interfaces in phase transition problems. Previous work has successfully applied similar models to predict surface evolution in etching and deposition. Here, we propose to adapt these techniques to real-time process monito...

Investigation of Phase Evolution of TiC-TiB2 Nanostructure Fabricated by MASHS (RESEARCH NOTE)

Nanocomposite of titanium diboride/titanium carbide was fabricated by combustion synthesis of mechanically milled reactant powders. The stoichiometric mixture of Ti and B4C as starting materials milled for 1, 3, 6 and 9 h. Milled powders pressed to form pellets then green compacts were placed in a tube furnace that preheated to 1100 oC in inert atmosphere (Ar).The samples were investigated by X...

Texture Evolution in Low Carbon Steel Fabricated by Multi-directional Forging of the Martensite Starting Structuree

It has been clarified that deformation and annealing of martensite starting structure can produce ultrafine-grained structure in low carbon steel.  This study aims to investigate the texture evolution and mechanical properties of samples with martensite structure deformed by two different forging processes. The martensitic steel samples were forged by plane strain compression and multi-directio...

Phase-I monitoring of standard deviations in multistage linear profiles

In most modern manufacturing systems, products are often the output of some multistage processes. In these processes, the stages are dependent on each other, where the output quality of each stage depends also on the output quality of the previous stages. This property is called the cascade property. Although there are many studies in multistage process monitoring, there are fewer works on prof...
